Wheee!
The East Coast gets blown around, more NASA vision problems, and a General comes to town
Well, Hurricane Isabel has come ashore, and all hell has broken loose on the East Coast, as people panic, some over reacting, and some under-reacting. The forecast seems to be correct, with North Carolina getting the brunt of the storm before it moves up towards the DC area. DC panicked like crazy, with even the Metro closing down, and the government and schools closing for the rest of the week, but as of now, the only thing they're getting is some rain, though it likely will get worse as the day goes on.
Myself, I was scheduled to go on vacation down to the Jersey Shore today, which I have obviously delayed. But I did get out of DC and head to the Philadelphia area, as the prospect of loading my car in DC from a powerless 11th story apartment was not exactly exciting. So once again, vacation plans take me away from DC as a weather disaster approaches. Frequent readers may remember my writings from California during February's blizzard, so once again I'll be watching from afar. Given my newfound weather prediction ability, I'll let everyone know the next time I leave DC for a vacation so everyone can plan to flee...
But one final thought from NJ, where our biggest problem could be some power outages...yesterday I took advantage of an evening up here to watch the Phillies blow a game to the Florida Marlins. Philadelphia fans may have a reputation, but they are cautious, as noted when the drunk folks a row or two back yelled to Florida OF Jeff Conine: "Conine, you suck! If I didn't need my batteries for tomorrow I'd throw them at you!"
Enjoy the storm! Not much today, as the storm coverage has pretty much taken over all the news. Some stuff on the General coming to town, and tomorrow or Monday I'll have the new name for our Democratic Candidates ready. And don't forget National Talk Like a Pirate Day tomorrow!

Back to the Future: With the Space Shuttle's days numbered, and no plan for a new space plane yet on the board, will NASA go back to Apollo-type space capsules? It may work for just manned launches w/o cargo to the Space Station...but come on, we can't build a new space plane? Where's the vision here people?
