Look Who's Back!
A news item brings back a long lost friend
So today I was checking my e-mail at work, and saw a message from a friend drawing my attention to a news item today...and demanded the return of an old feature, which upon review I thought was an excellent idea....
Here is the item:
Edwards Launches 2008 Campaign
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/28/us/politics/28cnd-edwards.html
Interestingly enough, I also caught this article on the wire today...Edwards is apparently selling his Georgetown house for over $5 million. Guess he's planning on pouring a great deal of money into that campaign:

But of course, the main reason for this posting is the return of:
The Bad John Edwards Photo of the Day:
Take that, Hillary! And that, Obama! And that, Vilsack! With my shovel and cell phone strapped to my belt, I shall take back America!
I'll also note for the record that the photo that accompanies the above NYTimes story is also quite good. For those of you new to this game...back in 2000 I began to notice that despite his reputation as a great campaigner, man of the people, and good looking man...the photos of him just sucked. Unfortunately, most of the old ones in the archives are dead links now, but you'll see what I mean as time goes by.
Not that you should start expecting more frequent updates or anything...but as photos start to show up, I shall deliver when possible.
Gerald Ford 1913-2006
So with the passing of Gerald Ford, I was reminded of what must be one of the greatest presidential quotes of all time...it happened a week or two into his presidency. Ford was with reporters in the Oval Office, when his dog walked in and proceeded to take a dump in the middle of the office. A steward rushed in to clean up the mess, and Ford stopped him, taking the scoop himself with the great line, "I'll do that. No man should have to pick up after another man's dog." The man also would come to early morning briefings in pajamas...they say anyone who seeks the presidency shouldn't be there, so perhaps our current leaders could take some notes from the only man who never had any desire to do the job at all.
RIP.
On another note...there is some excitement about the state funeral this weekend here in DC, but if you're not from here, you may not realize why. A few years back when Reagan died, his motorcade route throughout town was over some of DC's famously poorly maintained roads. One off ramp on the Rock Creek Parkway was so bad as I recall, it really was more of a dirt road than a paved one. Well, within 24 hours of the motorcade route being announced...every road was perfectly paved with a fresh coat of asphalt. So needless to say, many of us are hoping this is actually part of the work the Army does, since many of those roads need it again. I'll let you know.
Anyway, enjoy your John Edwards, and best wishes for a safe and happy 2007!
