Happy New Swamp!
The Swamp enters it's 5th year, more people join the Presidential Fray, and who says there aren't fun jobs out there?
Well folks, as you may note there is a new volume, as February 2 at some point was decided to be the arbitrary start date of the Swamp year. As we enter the 5th year (and hopefully with more than 10 posts this year!) just a word of thanks to everyone who reads, everyone who sends along articles, and everyone who encourages. Good to know that sometimes my rants are worth reading, and that the stories I choose sometimes are useful as well. Website ideas are underway, look for some changes by Spring!
Look Who's Running For President: Will Al Gore enter the Democratic field and answer the prayers of the multitudes of activists? A great Rolling Stone piece on Gore's chances.

Fastest Political Burnout Record Entry: What the hell happened to Gavin Newsom? Two years ago they were talking about the Mayor of San Francisco running for President one day, now he's entering an alcohol rehab center after sleeping with his campaign manager's wife and apparently running around town with a 20-year old cocktail waitress. Of course, he'll probably still get reelected -

Open Up and Say Aaaah...: Looking for a growth field? How about a bovine dentist? Seems that vets are in short supply in farm country, which is causing major issues among cattle raisers and dairy farmers. This article also gives us the line of the day...
"Had the vet been here, we could have done a C-section and she could have lived through it fine," said Becki Benson, the owner, with her husband, Eddie, of Rainbow and 150 other dairy cows.
Instead, "I worked on her till I was just exhausted," Mr. Benson said. "But I ended up having to take the cow to a butcher shop, where she got processed for hamburger."
That one might make you pass on the burger today -

Make Sure to Take the Quarters! Well, OK, one more line of the day from this story of a woman who gave birth on the floor of an Atlantic City casino Monday:
Callender, who has worked at Resorts since it opened in 1978, said the birth was a first for the casino as far as he knew. "We've had people die here," he said, "but we've never had people born here."
