There Can Be Only One

Edwards. Clark. Two Southerners. Two Southern Primaries. One Winner. Or Runner-up.

In a move that brings back memories of his father, Bush's economic advisers said yesterday that all the jobs (including white collar ones) that are moving overseas was a good thing.  While some of their points may be accurate, others are up for debate, and irregardless, those who have lost their jobs have been unable to find new ones, a key part of how a true market economy should function.

Those who can find jobs have also found ones that pay much less then their previous ones.  The Labor Department says wages haven't fallen, but their numbers do not account for inflation.  Plus, when you average in the ever increasing CEO salaries, it easily counters the low salaries of the jobs created under Bush.

Finally, the rosy estimates the White House put out for job creation this year has just over 2 million jobs being created.  Considering these estimates have been wrong for the last umpteenth months, I wouldn't put too much stock in them.  But even if they are right, overall for the Bush Administration, we would still likely lose jobs, or at best break even.  That's a great thing to run on: "Re-elect Bush:  Hey, you're not worse off then 4 years ago!"

Big primaries in Tennessee and Virginia today.  The effect of the early voting in both states will be interesting.  In Tennessee, over 104,000 early ballots were cast, many before Kerry's surge and Dean's destruction, and the South rising again in Edwards and Clark.  Unless there's an unlikely split between them, it looks like either Edwards or Clark is history after today.  In fact, looking at the last polls, if only one of them were in the race, they likely would have beaten Kerry.  Kerry will probably win both though, so Edwards and Clark are fighting for 2nd.  Kerry may be beatable one-on-one, it's just that everyone in the race still thinks that the person to go one-on-one with Kerry is them, so by the time only one is left...it may be too late.

Oh, and Maine still hasn't finished counting from Sunday's caucus, so no delegate numbers from there yet.  Hopefully they'll finish today.
